Christine K. Clifford
"People are the only creatures on earth who can celebrate the joy of being alive."
- Christine Clifford, November 1994...
All of us have read or heard stories about people who turn lemons into lemonade. It isn't often we get the privilege of meeting such an individual.
Before her bout with breast cancer, Christine had definitely cracked the "glass ceiling." By the age of 37, she was Senior Vice President for the SPAR Group, an international retail services firm in New York. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994, Christine spent a year of surgery, aggressive chemotherapy, radiation, loss of her hair... and a change in priorities.
Four weeks after surgery, she awoke in the middle of the night with a vision... cartoons. Over 50 cancer-related cartoons started popping up in her head.
She realized that in all the support, gifts, calls and messages she'd received, no one ever brought her anything that made her laugh. In fact, she noticed that people were actually careful to avoid humorous conversation or topics around her.
Yet, she recognized that laughter provided a necessary release from the tension and even promoted recovery.
So, she decided to do something about it.
